Suburban Girl by Raissa Biscotti

Defining themes of the 1950s include ones such as the rise of rock ‘n’ roll music, the increase in suburban living, the civil rights movement and the beginning of the cold war. The role of women in these times was very rigid, limiting many liberties, restricting them to archetypal feminine roles like housewives and mothers. This fashion story takes the differing view on the role of an independent suburban woman. One who refuses to follow the rules imposed upon her, thereby empowering her femininity and her sense of beauty.
